Notifications

How to find the notification bell, the difference between space-wide and personal notifications, why notifications always show in your own language, and how to change notification settings.

What Are Notifications

niyase's notifications tell you about events that involve someone else and are relevant to you — a member joining, an approval request, an @mention, a billing problem, and so on.

Reminders you set for yourself, like "what's next" or "a task due soon," are not notifications. Check those from the command palette (⌘K) instead.

Finding Notifications

  • cloud / desktop: the bell icon in the utility corner at the bottom of the rail, with a badge showing the unread count
  • mobile: the bell icon at the right end of the header shows an unread badge

Click (or tap) the bell to open your recent notifications, then move to the full notifications page from there. See How navigation works for the overall screen layout.

  • Desktop runs a background watcher that checks the local inbox for new notifications every time the space syncs, and shows an OS-level notification (e.g., Notification Center) when it finds one. This isn't pushed directly from the server — the device itself watches the synced data and fires the notification
  • Local spaces (spaces not connected to the cloud) don't show the notification mechanism at all

Two Kinds of Notifications: Space-Wide and Personal

Notifications come in two broad kinds.

  • Space-wide notifications (e.g., a failed payment, hitting a usage limit, a plan change) go to members with a role such as OWNER or ADMIN
  • Personal notifications (e.g., an @mention, an approval request, a member joining or leaving) go only to the person the event is actually about

Even when several people share the same space, you only see notifications addressed to you. Read/unread and dismissal state is tracked separately per person — another member marking their copy as read doesn't clear yours.

Notifications Always Show in Your Own Language

A notification is rendered in whatever language the person reading it has set. If a Japanese-speaking member triggers an event, a member who reads the app in English still sees the notification in English. Regardless of who did what in which language, it always reads in your language when you open it.

Notification Settings

From each space's settings screen, under "My Notifications," you can choose whether email and Push are sent for each category (@mentions, approval requests, member joins, and so on).

  • The in-app bell is always on and can't be turned off from here — this exists so you never miss something because a channel failed to deliver
  • Quiet hours (a time window during which Push stays silent) are set per account and apply across all your spaces
  • A small set of notifications tied to keeping the business running or the account secure — such as failed payments or security alerts — stay on and can't be turned off

Whether you receive newsletters and other announcements from niyase can be turned on or off individually from your Account settings.
